Life aboard

HIDEOUT at anchor, seen from directly above: sunbeds fore and aft, and the deck clear to the swim platform.

Water on every side

By noon the teak underfoot is warm, laid in narrow boards that run the length of the deck. The chairs are woven from a fiber made for sun and salt, and it gives a little under a bare arm. The swim platform is down, and the water is a step away.

Photographs of her

Main salon on the centerline: dinette to port, sofa to starboard, glazed doors open onto the aft deck.

Horizon from every seat

When the sun goes, the salon is lit by lines of light set into the ceiling. The sofa sits low and deep, and the water stays in view over its back. Pull the throw over your knees and leave the doors open to the cockpit.

Deck by deck

Aft cockpit under a deployed shade sail: dining set laid, transom sofa, wooded shoreline beyond.

Lunch under the sail

Lunch is set in the cockpit, a few steps from the water. The plates are East Fork stoneware, made in Asheville from clay rich in iron. Each rim is left bare, just where your thumb rests.

How a week runs
